At Lernimpuls Witten e.V. we have made it our mission to support people on their path to learning the language in Germany. The Beginnings: First Steps in a Foreign Language
For many of our participants, the path to learning the language in Germany begins with a feeling of uncertainty. This was also the case for Maria from Spain, who moved to Witten two years ago. “I only knew a few German words and often felt lost,“ she recounts. “But I knew that the language would be the key to my new life in Germany.“
Maria decided to attend a language course at Lernimpuls Witten e.V. The first weeks were a challenge for her. “It was hard to get used to the new sounds and the grammar. Sometimes I was frustrated because I felt like I wasn't making progress.“

Ahmed from Syria had a similar experience. “When I came to Germany, I couldn't speak a single word of German,“ he recalls. “It was very difficult for me, especially because I had to take care of my family while looking for a job at the same time.“
Ahmed's greatest challenge was learning the German language while simultaneously fulfilling his daily obligations. “It was not easy, but I knew that I have to learn the language in order to build a future for my family in Germany.“
In the language course at Lernimpuls Witten e.V., Ahmed found the support he needed. “My teachers were very patient and helped me understand even difficult topics. They motivated me to keep at it, even when it was hard sometimes.“
Today Ahmed speaks German fluently and works at a German company. “I am very proud of what I have achieved. The language course not only taught me the language, but also helped me integrate into Germany and build a new life here.“

Ahmed agrees: “The language has helped me not only professionally, but also personally. I now feel much more secure and self-confident when interacting with other people.“
Elena adds: “I can now organize my everyday life independently, do the shopping, go to doctor's appointments and chat with my neighbors. A year ago I couldn't have imagined that.“
