„Strong Girls for a Strong Society“ A Project on Gender-Reflective Offerings in Child and Youth Work

Another exciting year within our project “Strong Girls for a Strong Society” is now soon behind us. As Lernimpuls Witten e.V., we have been committed to strong girls for several years now. Our conviction to provide specific offerings for girls with a migration background and in disadvantaged situations is being received with great interest.

From May to December, we once again accompanied 20 participants on their path toward increased self-confidence, cooperation skills, and academic success. We placed great importance on creating a protected space in which the girls can personally unfold and develop. In the weekly meetings, during the homework help and the cultural activities, we were able to observe how the girls motivated and supported one another. In addition, the intensive involvement of the parents, starting with home visits at the beginning of the project through to regular parent meetings, strengthened the family support.

Special highlights this year were our joint day trips to Köln and Unna. They brought not only an increase in motivation but also a deep connection among one another. Our concluding 3-day workshop in Berlin was co-designed by the participants and bore witness to their commitment and their development.

When we look back, we recognize not only academic successes but also personal development and a strengthened cohesion within the group. The response shows us that specific offerings for girls are essential and that our endeavor to create a safe space for personal growth appeals strongly to the girls. We would like to warmly thank the Landschaftsverband Westfalen Lippe (LWL), whose funding made the implementation of this valuable project possible for us.
