„We Are Europe 2.0“ A Project on Democratic and Political Values Education
Given the encouraging experiences from our first Europe project, we at Lernimpuls Witten e.V. decided to embark on the next round with „We Are Europe 2.0“. With 15 participants and two dedicated supervisors, we were once again able to gain exciting insights this year into the working processes and the challenges of the European Union.
We began with a joint examination of the history of the EU and acquired a basic understanding of EU law. This allowed us to create a foundation for our European policy simulation games, in which the young people engaged with various scenarios of EU policy, for example EU migration policy and the EU accession procedures. They took on different roles and perspectives, sought compromises, and honed their decision-making skills.
Our weekend trips to Brussels, Strasbourg, and Luxembourg proved to be the undisputed highlights of our project. The excursions made it possible not only to visit the central venues of EU policy, but also to experience the diversity of Europe and to forge close bonds with one another.
From engaging with the theoretical foundations, through the European policy simulation games, to the excursions to the institutions of the EU – every stage helped to strengthen democratic values and to promote the willingness to find compromises. As Lernimpuls Witten e.V., we hope that an understanding of the EU helps to strengthen democracy and to shape a fair future. That is why we are grateful for the funding of this valuable project by the Landschaftsverband Westfalen Lippe (LWL).
