KommAn 2021
In 2021 we further expanded our integration work and responded in a targeted way to the needs of refugees and newly arrived people. Despite the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, we were able to offer numerous activities and opportunities for encounter that fostered exchange and personal development. Our offerings were diverse and gave participants the opportunity to network, improve their language skills and share their cultural values in a safe environment.
Among the highlights of the year were numerous leisure and educational activities that took place both indoors and outdoors. In May 2021 we went on a hike to the Hohenstein together with the children and young people. On the green space the participants were able to play table tennis and teqball and afterwards exchange ideas over a shared lunch. In June 2021, board and team games as well as small competitions were at the centre of an active evening. This was rounded off with a large discussion round and a concluding game.
Another highlight was the barbecue in July, at which the children and young people fired up the grill together with the volunteer supervisors and exchanged views on a wide variety of topics. In August 2021 we organised a movie night, at which the group chose a film, enjoyed popcorn and afterwards discussed the themes and scenes.
Particularly popular was the cooking and eating together in October 2021. The young people decided in advance what they wanted to cook and prepared the meal together. The event also included a discussion about table manners and the opportunity to address cultural differences in food culture. December was then marked by creativity: while crafting and painting, the children and young people were able to express themselves creatively and share their works with the group.
These projects not only contributed to promoting integration but also strengthened cohesion and communication between the participants. The positive response and the feedback show how important such offerings are for the participation and well-being of refugees. We are delighted to continue being a valuable point of contact for our community and to carry on our integration work in a sustainable manner.
